Is Your Home Toxic to You Or Your Children?

We still believe that our homes are a safe place to be - a refuge against the stress of our work and daily life. However, sometimes some of us are exposed to chemicals in our own house, which can be hazardous to your health and family health.

I do a lot of environmental inspections and I am amazed by what I see during these inspections that people do for themselves without thinking. The good news is, not everyone is naive things to harm themselves. Example: Mix Clorox with ammonia.

It is important to understand all the products you use in your home. Have you ever read the product label that you use? Your first thought is that all products are safe because they are in the grocery store. The answer is a step because some people have allergies to certain substances and not for everyone. They need to know that there are safe alternatives to help us.

The first thing to do is realize that all manufacturers are required to have what is called an MSDS Backgrounder. When I tell people about this portfolio, it is this strange look of astonishment. It is the "Manufacturers material safety data sheet" and should be available to any consumer who buys their products. Jump to: www.osha.gov, for more information.

Here are the top ten common products I find in the houses that people are allergic to find an inexpensive and safe alternative is easy.

• moths have no place in your home. The chemical agent that is paradichlorobenzene or naphthalene. It is a chemical which can cause blood disorders. Children are used to find them and their ingestion. Use an alternative like cedar shavings.

• Ammonia gas can cause eye and respiratory problems. Mixed with Clorox, you "mustard gas" of the First World War.

• carbon monoxide is produced from poorly ventilated water heaters and hot stoves. I tested many of these systems and found them to be particularly dangerous when the device is located inside your home. The drafting of exhaust can be a problem in a closed air-conditioned house. If you think you have this problem, contact your local gas company dealer to have it checked. All homes with gas appliances should have a carbon monoxide detector available at Home Depot, Lowe's or your local hardware store.

• The detergent-based soaps are derived from petrochemicals. Use natural soaps around the house. These soaps may be found in green-Wise department of your local grocery store or health food Store. Bronner's Soap is a good example of a Castile soap, which has been around for a long time.

• New clothing fabric sizing on the fabrics to make them good for the consumer. Wash your clothes before you wear them. Some people have an allergy to this product. This will avoid respiratory problems people have with this product. Buy as many all natural cotton clothing as possible, including your leaves.

• Pesticides-ever spraying pesticides in your home. Remember bugs are smart and know where the toxic substances are. We did an experiment with cockroaches and watched bypass or skip over a line of pesticides sprayed on the ground. Also bait and you'll be safe from exposure to pesticides. Remember, there are no safety of pesticides. If it kills, it can affect you.

• Cooking: try to cook as much organic food as possible. Organic vegetables taste better than non-organic. Try the test, you'll be surprised. They are available in the green-Wise department of your local grocery store or health food Store.

• House plants: they are beautiful to watch but if you do not take care of them, they become a breeder of mold. Overwatering is mainly the result. Buy an indicator of soil moisture to monitor the water content of the soil.

• Chlorine Allergies: The chlorine in the municipal water supply can be removed using a system throughout the house. Chlorine can be harmful to your hair and skin over long periods of exposure. It may be worse when your municipality super chlorinates the system due to a breakdown in the system. This problem is common to all municipalities city. We have several clients who are ill when this happens because of their allergies with chlorine.

• Bottled water: it is better to use glass plastic because the water can absorb chemicals plastic. The substance is known as GAP or bisphenol and is a hormone disrupter. Have you ever left a bottle of water sitting in your car and it warms up? Note the difference in taste is the chemical in water due to leaching plastics in water. Never drink water that has been heated in a plastic bottle. The same is true about your baby bottle; heat the ingredients in a glass bottle, not plastic.
