For those of you who have the experience and genealogists have so far weathered the storm of years of research through the dust of the archives, old Bibles, sweet old family with memories unreliable, the cold cemeteries, civil war records and all sorts of essential documents, which are now in the "nirvana" online research… this article is for you.
Who do you have in place in recent times, the most exciting and useful personal and family past-time, alongside the power of his immediate family?
May I respectfully request, but with conviction, when was the last time you shared with someone near you a heart warming story of one of their direct competitors, but the deceased ancestors: maybe something they have never heard before? When did you take a last-son or granddaughter to visit a cemetery or a church where they could see some old records of baptism, or the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) and the Social Security death (SSDR) offices or other places of interest?
For this question, always with respect, when was the last time you shared with someone, that does not interfere with what you know is of great personal value, something of a "witness" what happens in the ground with regard to those who are responsible for their being here in the first place?
Of the thousands of would begin the pursuit of genealogy (family history), only a few "survive". There are many reasons for this high "mortality rate". One of the most often cited is ", it simply takes too much of my time." It's true! Genealogy not consume time and a lot of it. But this is not just a search for names, dates and locations, is a search to discover our own identity and, in a sense, the discovery of our nation, as we seek to those of our ancestors who have left their mark somewhere in time. Unfortunately, apprentices' get worn before discovering the true joy of this "entertainment". This should be genealogical "leisure", not genealogy "work".
What is needed to maintain the interest and commitment of our "new" colleagues? The answer is simple: They need to find the "stories" of their ancestors, not only the data. It is a story that allows them to return, the genealogy libraries, online services, churches, cemeteries, those Vital Records, their ancestors living back more. But they will need more data will not they? Of course yes, because the data will help them find stories.
Encourage them not to get lost in the first days on all collateral, which deals with cousin 'this' and the other cousin "that". The almost irresistible attraction lies in the emotional sagas of direct ancestors, men and women which they sprang.
It will help if they understand that each of us is a physical and spiritual composites of those who preceded them. We must encourage them to seek the stories behind the names, dates and locations, so they can begin to see and feel that they really are: To see the character traits in ancestors, they recognize them - same otherwise seeking Social Security Death Index (SSDI), the Social Security Death Records (SSDR), the multitude of Vital Records such as birth, death and marriage certificates, baptismal church and similar documents, old wills, probate documents and mailing lists, simply wear them. Rather than searching through cemeteries interesting for steles, they will be buried in one.
It May a surprise to many of you, but the needs of genealogical research each lawyer and devout possible. Why? Because the fact is that many researchers are, the more we discover records and more relevant research that we produce.
Since the first Genealogical Society was founded in 1836, more than search pages were produced as the existence in the world at that time. For history to make a contribution contemporary, whether family history or the history of communities or nations, it must be researched and written on indexed. It must be made available to give true meaning, by being able to be absorbed in the life of each of us, we feel, to motivate us, or perhaps to give us some revile practices of the past. History, and its records can not be allowed to remain idle and unused.
If you are one of those who have a lifetime membership in the SSDI or SSDR etc, and you are known in genealogical circles from New York to San Francisco, and you're in the Guinness Book of Records for most submitted names the IGI, please ask yourself, despite all the data you have collected, is it not the stories about your ancestors direct that really affect you, and help them fill your heart and mindset with the wonder of everything that came to you through them?
Well, if this strike an agreement with you, please, make your mind today, you're going to do something that will stimulate another person's interest? You can simply add another researcher of value, perhaps still the best, genealogical research?
Leo Talbot enjoys genealogy research documents such as Social Security death index and U.S. Vital Records to build his genealogical tree.
